Weaning
Weaning is the gradual process of separation of suckling kittens from their mother, when they start to become independent animals, able to feed and move around actively by themselves. Kittens may begin to show an interest in liquid food at around 3 weeks. By 6-8 weeks, they are usually eating well and receiving very little nutrition from their mothers. With an adult dog who pulls, you may need to resort to the use of a check-chain. The problem is that if a dog is left to pull, his neck muscles will become well developed and he’ll become hardened to the collar around his neck and a week or two on a check-chain collar will bring him into line, if used correctly. The only reason check-chain collars are cruel is because of the ignorance of the users. Letting someone use a check-chain collar who is untrained is tantamount to giving a child a catapult. It can be very dangerous. If you stick rigidly to the guidelines below you should not make mistakes. (more…)

The cat is a meat-eater and its digestive system is not designed to handle a lot of vegetable matter; meat or fish form its principal diet. A cat’s body simply cannot extract the right nutrients from vegetable foods, and whereas we — and ourdogs — get most of our energy needs from carbohydrates, a cat cannot so easily digest them. Cats need protein to fuel their energy reserves; and protein means meat. (more…)
